The Ascension by Michael Carroll

Character Archetypes:

Lance is the Trickster because he is a mischief maker who is funny. One way he causes mischief in the story was how when he was in prison, at Oakwood Grove, he stalled a police officer while the other inmates were in the bathroom. When they got out, he hid in between them and ran, making an escape. He also cracks jokes to try and lift the spirits of other characters.

Roz(or Rosalyn) is a Female Hero or feminist and a Warrior. She is one of the main protagonists in the story. She is always using her telepathy, fighting or not fighting. Using it in battle and helping people.

Krodin is the Shadow in the story. He is the near invincible villain that has taken control over America as chancellor. He has killed most of the super humans, and is trying to kill most of our protagonists. He is the antagonist, the opposer.

Max is the Shapeshifter in the story.He is Roz's older brother. He is constantly going back and forth between the good side and the bad side. It is partially because he chooses, but he's also forced because in the alternate universe that the characters have been switched to, Max is a different man who is very powerful and works with Krodin. So he has to be the same, as he has replaced the Max from that universe with himself, like our other characters.

Abby and James are kind of the Tag Team. They're always working together in the story, facing the same physical challenges. With them helping each other, they both learn more about themselves, and unleash new abilities.

Brawn is kind of a Scapegoat, he's always been criticized by the people ever since he turned into a 13 foot tall, blue giant. He is a target. For both the good side and the bad side. He's a target for the enemy because they think he is a threat and needs to be taken out, but for the heroes, he is a target for them because they need him, he is essential to their group, being the biggest and the strongest physically.

Solomon Cord or Paragon is the Mentor in the book. He is one of the older characters in the story(even though he's 22), besides Krodin being over 4,000 years old, and Max. He guides Abby and Lance, teaching them lessons and teaching them moves, even giving them weapons like Abby's Bow. He is there when Lance needs them, like in their universe(not the alternate) when Lance's parents were murdered, he sheltered him and gave him a new home.
